Why Jean calls herself a "Barefoot Doc"

Since ancient times, Chinese communities have relied on folk healers who were also farmers to support health and well-being. These early “first responders” were often acupuncturists who’d learned about healing from elders eager to teach community care techniques.

Called “barefoot doctors", these caregivers would work without shoes so they could farm the rice paddies alongside their neighbors when not tending to them as patients. And so, it was this practice of working hand in hand with their communities that made them and their holistic ways so trusted.

Carrying on that tradition of community engagement today are acupuncturists and natural health advocates like Jean Brannon. Whether she’s working with patients or the written word, licensed acupuncturist and author Jean Brannon incorporates Chinese wisdom and wellness principles to help people live their happiest and healthiest lives.
